189 Police officers report positive for Covid-19

San Juan – The Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, Henry Escalera Rivera, reported on Friday that 189 Uniformed agents remain positive for COVID-19.

“We currently have five units closed due to reported contagions in staff. The units of Highway Patrols of Aibonito, Marítima de Ceiba, Cuartel de Camuy, Special Arrests and Extraditions of San Juan and the San Juan Police Athletic League will be reopened once we receive the approval of the doctors and the decontamination works are completed . While work in these units is resumed, personnel from nearby barracks are in charge of preventive patrols and complaints, ”said the official in written statements.

He explained that, as of today, 189 members of the uniformed are out of their work after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

These are monitored directly by Dr. María Del Carmen Calderón, director of the Office of Medical Services of the Police Department.

Another 457 are in preventive isolation and will receive instructions from the medical team on their return to work.

Since the beginning of the emergency, 4,728 have returned to work.

Escalera Rivera emphasized that since the emergency began, 1,812,698 masks have been delivered to members of the Bureau.

In addition, gel sanitizer has been distributed (4,726 gallon containers, 45,152 10-ounce containers and 11,743 4-ounce containers).

He also highlighted that there was distribution of 3,953 boxes with 100 glove units, 421 digital thermometers and an order of approximately two million masks is expected to be received soon.

Finally, the Chief of Police urged the public not to lower their guard and continue taking the necessary measures such as the use of masks and physical distancing to prevent infections.
