SAN JUAN – In 1951, a group of federal employees founded Caribe Federal Credit Union in Puerto Rico, a savings and credit cooperative in which each member owns and is served as such, honoring its motto “Service with human warmth.”

Focused on this vision, they achieved exponential growth, from about 150 members in the beginning to the over 40,000 they currently have, when they celebrate their 70th anniversary, being the largest and strongest cooperative organized under the Federal Cooperative Law in Puerto Rico.

“At Caribe Federal, we are honored to celebrate seven decades serving our partners to provide the advice and financial products they need with the best interests and low service charges,” said Jorge M. Vadell, general manager of Caribe Federal.

“Our staff is ready to provide service at the 1233 Hostos Avenue branch in Ponce, which serves the entire southern area since 2018, as well as at the metropolitan area branches, located in San Juan and Guaynabo. We have invested in advanced technology to provide services in an agile and convenient way, either through the internet or by telephone through our Virtual Branch and TeleCaribe. From now on we will continue to promote the values of cooperativism in Puerto Rico, with the same commitment and professionalism that has
characterized by the past seventy years, ”said Vadell.

Since the early 2000s, Caribe Federal has remained at the forefront by using technology to expand and facilitate its services.

Through the internet, they offer a variety of services that include transactions, photo check deposits, online account statements, automatic payments, withdrawal of official checks, images of processed checks and payment of utilities, among others, through the services. CaribeOnline electronic devices, the Caribe Mobile application, ATH Móvil and Caribe Bill Pay-e.

Other services include withdrawals and deposits at ATMs in branches and withdrawals at hundreds of ATMs through the Coop24 and Sharenet networks.

In 2006, the cooperative made an agreement with the San Juan Art Students League, through the Employees of Selected Groups program, which allows members of this institution to become members of Caribe Federal.

This benefit continues in force, so that citizens who are not federal employees can be members of the cooperative, as long as they comply with said requirement.
