A trough in high levels of the atmosphere will propitiate an increase in the development of downpours and thunderstorms today, Saturday, for almost the entire island, specifically, towns in the central zone due to the speed and direction of the wind.
This was predicted by the meteorologist of the National Weather Service Walter Snell, who also pointed out that it is possible that some accumulations of water are generated in various sectors.
“Numerous downpours and thunderstorms in the center of the island are possible and that will extend to almost the entire island. The rain will be in the afternoon, right now it is clear. There is the possibility of urban floods and small streams “, said the expert in a telephone interview.
In fact, the meteorological agency established in its weather forecast for today that almost the entire island has a moderate risk of registering urban floods and small streams.
The reason behind the risk of flooding is that yesterday it rained for many of the areas where other downpours could develop today, so those soils that are already saturated could respond quickly to flooding.
Meanwhile, Snell cautioned that there is a warning for small boat operators for swell that can occasionally rise to seven feet.
“Generally, it is four to five feet and that is due to swells from the north,” said the expert.
In addition, he stressed that there is a high risk of marine currents for the beaches of the north coast of the island.
Meanwhile, for next week, Snell anticipated that there is a cold front north of Puerto Rico that could be reaching the region by Tuesday and causing an increase in the development of clouds and rain.
