Mayor of Yauco, Ángel Luis Torres Ortiz, today demanded from the management of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) the assignment of additional brigades to resolve the serious situation that the residents of the Río Prieto neighborhoods, Algarrobos are going through and Sierra Alta.
Torres Ortiz pointed out that about 100 families have been without electricity for two weeks so it is time for the agency to urgently address this situation for the good of these communities located in the rural area of Yauco. He explained that he holds daily conversations with the area directors and that they commit to assigning personnel, but that at the end of the day, nothing happens.
“It is sad that I have to make public the lack of attention of PREPA to with the people of Yauco. It is not in my hands to repair these systems but to report that the days go by and my claims and those of the citizens fall on deaf ears. The municipality can be a collaborating entity, but it is PREPA’s responsibility to expedite the repair of these breakdowns, many of which occurred before the passage of Storm Isaías, ”the mayor denounced by written communication.
The first municipal executive recalled that his people have suffered not only the impact of hurricanes but also earthquakes and have fought for a speedy recovery. “This is unjustifiable. To help in the midst of this situation, we distributed food vouchers so that these families could make up for the losses they suffered due to the lack of electricity. It is time for this to be resolved now ”, he concluded.
