The Administrator of the Administration for the Socioeconomic Development of the Family (ADSEF), Alberto Fradera, reported today on the delivery of around 40,800 pounds of food distributed in various sectors of the municipalities of Lajas and Mayagüez, to more than 1,200 families who suffered losses after the passage of storm Isaías.
Given the damage caused by storm Isaías in the western region of the island, ADSEF personnel from the Department of the Family carried out last Saturday the first of several food deliveries received through the federal program The Emergency Food Assistance (TEFAP).
As reported, around 10,500 pounds of food were distributed to 350 families in the Maguayo neighborhood in Lajas.
Similarly, in the following days, over 27,600 pounds of food were delivered to more than 920 families in the Quebrada Grande, Buenaventura and Nadal neighborhoods, in the Mayagüez municipality.
“That is our primary mission a, the immediate assistance and recovery of families affected by any event that disrupts their well-being. Since last week we have visited each community first, listening to the challenges and we have taken the assistance from house to house to ensure that a quick recovery is achieved, sensitive to the losses that each family has had, ”said the ADSEF administrator.
In addition of the food provided through the TEFAP program, ADSEF staff deliver essential items and assist in the coordination of services to families who need them.
For his part, the Secretary of the Department of the Family, Orlando López Belmonte, assured that “ADSEF staff will continue to be available to respond and serve the needs of the most vulnerable populations on the island, as they have done so far following the public policy of Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and all the resources necessary from the other administrations of the DF are also activated to provide the services that have been identified as necessary. ”
