Agriculture delivers vouchers to buy solar panels | government

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and the secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Carlos Flores Ortega, announced today the delivery of vouchers to farmers for the purchase of solar panels under the Agrosolar Program, of the initiative to reduce the cost energy in agricultural production.

This initiative is for the purpose of providing savings in operation, resilience and maintaining local economic development, as reported in a press release.

"Today we reaffirm our commitment to farmers to reward, improve and recognize their agricultural activities after an investment of $ 10 million for the purchase of solar panels. This initiative is promoted with the aim of defending the simultaneous use of agricultural land and the production of electricity from solar sources. In turn, help farmers promote organic farming. It is very important and is consistent with our work plan to promote the development of agricultural companies and agriculture in general, "said the governor.

The agency achieved through its Administration for the Development of Agricultural Companies (ADEA ), encourage the efforts of agribusinesses in the Super Agricultural Regions of Arecibo, Caguas, Lares, Mayagüez, Naranjito, Ponce, San Germán and Utuado. The program will benefit 140 farmers around the Island.

For his part, Flores Ortega highlighted: “In keeping with the governor's priorities, the program is aimed at farmers who mainly benefit from reducing operating costs. and increasing your income. The project appears in good time, since in many parts of the world solar energy has been implemented and panels have been installed on farms. It is a perfect combination between the field and technology. ”

The initiative is a collaboration with the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), under the Public Energy Policy Program they must develop, establish and require public and private entities to implementation and compliance with policies related to energy resource planning.
