Agriculture postpones family markets for coronavirus

The secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Carlos Flores Ortega, announced today that the family markets were postponed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus .

The family markets they were scheduled for July 23 and 25 in San Sebastián and Moca. Now they will be during the first week of August, as reported.

"In compliance with the new executive order of Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced to avoid all activities that generate concentrations of people , it has been determined to delay the family markets that we celebrate together with the Family Department . We must continue to follow all the preventive measures recommended by health professionals to minimize the risk of the virus spreading, "said the secretary in written statements.

" As the situation of risk to the population in this business model improves , the Department will continue to focus on providing aid and alliances in the available and safest markets so that the products of our farmers can reach the consuming public . Farmers have not stopped working and serving the best of their crops to our people and will maintain their commitment to their country because that is their nature, "said Flores Ortega.

In family markets, citizens can buy products from local farmers . Purchases are made in cash, or with Nutrition Assistance Program and WIC Program cards.
