A nurse died last night because of COVID-19, the spokesman for the College of Practical Nursing, Julio Irson, confirmed to Primera Hora.
This is the eighth nurse on the island to die from the coronavirus.
Irson identified the victim as Dayna M. Marrero Domena who worked at a hospital in the northern area of Puerto Rico.
“She was relatively young, Christian, a good nursing professional,” lamented Irson.
According to the spokesman, Marrero Domena, who had been working as a nurse for four years, had been hospitalized for about 40 days due to COVID-19, which has claimed the lives of more than 800 people on the island at the moment.
“This week the medical class mourns the death of Benjamin (Rodríguez Cotto, former director of the Emergency Room at the Medical Center) and now the nurse.
Irson called on health professionals to make use of the equipment to protect themselves from the virus and also urged hospitals to provide the necessary materials to all personnel who work attending the emergency.
“It is very important that we take responsibility for using accessories to protect ourselves from the virus and hospitals have to supply everything to health professionals,” he stressed.
The Department of Health reported this morning that another ten people died from COVID-19 in Puerto Rico. The agency also reported about 395 confirmed positive cases.
