The executive president of the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), Doriel Pagán Crespo, announced today an auction notice for the improvement works to be carried out at the Quebrada filter plant located in the municipality of Camuy.
Pagán Crespo reported that “the work consists of optimizing the water treatment process, providing an increase in clarification, filtration and disinfection capacity. This project has been designed considering population growth and future developments in the service area, ”he explained.
“The work will include the rehabilitation and optimization of the four existing filtration units, including the replacement of the filter medium, replacement of control valves and air washing system. Also, automation and installation of permanent washing pumps. The improvements have a construction cost of $ 2,500,000 ”, indicated the engineer.
On the other hand, the mayor of Camuy, Gabriel Hernández added that “today we are certainly taking a step in the right direction for decades Camuyan families have grappled with the severe drinking water problem in our communities. We still have a long way to go, the claim we have been making responds to an issue as important as the quality of life of our people ”.
For his part, the mayor of Hatillo, José “Chely” Rodríguez indicated: “I hope that the improvements to be made in the Quebrada filter plant will put an end to the intermittency that has affected the drinking water service in our communities”.
Prior to this announcement, the agency completed the project for the new raw water intake at the Quebrada dam located on the Camuy River. It is composed of a gravity dam built in concrete connected to a lateral intake structure that pumped raw water to the filtration plant. This project was completed in December 2019, with an investment of $ 898,923.00.
The Quebrada filtration plant supplies drinking water service to some 3,500 families between the towns of Camuy and Hatillo.
