Election commissioners of the parties are on the “right track” that the printing of ballots for the general elections of November 3 has already begun, by the Printech company.
The president of the State Elections Commission (CEE), Francisco Rosado Colomer, announced the start of the work on Saturday. Through a statement, it was reported that Printech’s manager, José Santana, announced that the process would begin at 4:00 am yesterday, Sunday.
This is the only validated printing company on the Island to carry out the work.
“In general terms, I think it is a very positive step. It is known that in the primaries it was a great stumbling block. I fully support this important step, ”he told THE SPOKESMAN Roberto Iván Aponte, electoral commissioner of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP).
He mentioned that they had been informed that between 300,000 to 400,000 ballots could be printed a day.
They foresee more resources will be needed
He added that they are focused on the elections being held on the scheduled date. This newspaper asked him if they think that it will be necessary to have more resources to achieve the objective.
“For a long time, the CEE has been working with fewer staff. How the advance vote and other matters will be handled is still pending. The PIP made a proposal to the president of the EEC to address this lack of personnel, “said Aponte.
The proposal consists of integrating university students to help with the counting of early and absentee votes, among other electoral tasks. This will be discussed this Friday with Rosado Colomer and the rest of the electoral commissioners, he reported.
“At first it seemed like a good idea. You have to evaluate the process, “he added.
Orville Valentín, electoral commissioner of the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), also thinks the proposal presented by the PIP is good.
“The idea of the partner seems very good to me, you have to give the students the opportunity. You have to see the details of logistics and implementation. It would rather be the process of shaping it and I think it is feasible, “he told this media.
Similarly, he agreed that the start of the printing of ballots is on track and in accordance with the electoral calendar.
“I find it is on track. I hope there are no setbacks or that the processes are affected, ”he said.
Others who believe that the work is underway are the commissioners of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and the New Progressive Party (PNP), Nicolás Gautier and Héctor Sánchez, respectively.
“We are on time, we are on the right track. The process was quite advanced. I understand there will be no problems or setbacks, ”Gautier said.
“It has been a team effort that is giving very good results,” said Sánchez, for his part, through a statement.
“Being proactive and looking for a smooth general elections to be held, the PNP presented on August 25 a work plan to the State Elections Commission in which the due dates were included to guarantee that they are carried out. carry out all necessary tasks prior to the electoral event. This work plan was accepted by the Commission and has been implemented on time, which places us in a favorable position to hold the elections on November 3, ”said the commissioner.
THE SPOKESMAN requested an expression from Rosado Colomer, but as of press time, the request was pending.
