CAYEY – Right-hander José De León pitched masterfully for six innings and led the Caguas Criollos to a 5-1 win over RA12 on Saturday night, on the first day of the semifinal, at the Pedro Montañez de Cayey stadium .
De Leon struck out 10 batters and did not lead to runs, with just three hits conceded.
It was a game with a limited offensive performance from both teams. The development team delivered four hits, two of them by Joab González, and La Yegüita just one, by Johneshwy Fargas.
Three of Caguas’ five races came in the third inning. The first came on the legs of Edwin Díaz, the product of an error by pitcher Juan Aponte. The other two laps came via sacrifice flys by Jarren Durán and Jonathan Morales.
In the eighth act, the Cagüeños added two runs after an error by third baseman Joshua Rivera and a sacrifice bass drum by Vimael Machín.
After the six zeros given by De León, they threw in relief to seal the Creole victory Giovanni Soto, Joshua Torres and Fernando Cruz. For the visitors, Juan Aponte charged with the reverse, who in 2.2 innings allowed all three Caguas runs.
RA12’s only touchdown was scored in the seventh inning, thanks to a triple by Glenn Santiago, who drove in Jonathan Laureano.

The semifinal between the Criollos and RA12 continues this Sunday at 3:05 pm at the Hiram Bithorn stadium in San Juan.
