Charges filed against inmate for murdering man in Ponce jail


The Puerto Rico Police reported today that the Ponce Court Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of murder in the first degree and three charges for the Weapons Law against Héctor Rodríguez Álvarez, 21 years old.

The events he is accused of took place on October 19 at Institution 676 of the Correctional Complex Sgto. Pedro Rodríguez Mateo (Las Cucharas) in Ponce.

In cell 8 of Institution 676, the body of 36-year-old inmate Norberto Sánchez Coreano was found, who presented bruises and wounds caused by a sharp object in the area of ​​his face, which caused his death at the scene.

This case was brought before the presence of Judge Carlos Quiñonez Capacetti through the Video Call System, who after evaluating the evidence presented, determined cause in the four charges presented and imposed a global bond of $ 2,500,000.

Rodríguez Álvarez will continue to be admitted to the Bayamón Correctional Complex.
