PONCE – On Thursday, May 13, 2021, the Ponce Court Prosecutor’s Office in conjunction with the Staff of the Division of Domestic Violence of the Ponce Area, presented 2 charges for article 3.1 of Law 54 (Abuse), this against Carlos Vélez Orengo, 22 years old.

According to information received by Captain Daniel Justiniano, Director of the Ponce Criminal Investigation Corps, related to the investigation of this case, it was in charge of agent Héctor L. Torres of the Ponce Domestic Violence Division, in conjunction with the Prosecutor. Carolyn Arcelay, who instructed to file 2 charges for the crime of abuse, against the accused.

The presentation of complaints was brought before the presence of Judge Mari N. Aparicio Laspina, who after evaluating the case, determined cause for arrest against Vélez Orengo and imposed a total bail of $ 50 thousand, being admitted to the Bayamón Correctional Complex, when the bond is provided.

The filing of charges was for events reported on May 12, 2021 in the Ensenada neighborhood in Guánica, where a lawsuit against Law 54 was filed, where, according to the consensual couple, Carlos Vélez uttered profanity at him, feeling offended.

An indictment is only an indictment and is not evidence of guilt. The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
