The second economic stimulus check of $ 600 approved by the Donald Trump administration for the coronavirus emergency began to reach Puerto Ricans today.
Already many citizens have reported through social networks that the money was deposited in their accounts this morning.
The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi reported yesterday that the Department of the Treasury had begun to disburse the $ 600 after the agency received the approval of the Distribution Plan from the federal Treasury.
This new federal aid will reach about 2.8 million people – either as individuals, couples or dependents – representing a total of approximately $ 1.7 billion.
It was reported that citizens who qualify will see the money reflected in their bank accounts these days.
The Secretary of the Treasury, Francisco Parés Alicea, estimated that most of the payments, which will be $ 600 per individual and $ 600 per qualified dependent, or $ 300 in cases of joint custody, will be completed in mid-February.
“In three or four weeks, 95 percent of the people who qualify for this new aid will have their money deposited or their check pending,” said the official.
As established by federal law, these additional $ 600 payments will be received by individuals with valid Social Security, who have been residents of Puerto Rico during the taxable year and who have not been claimed as dependents on another person’s Income Tax Return.
