San Juan – Juanita Aponte Morales, president of the Association of Owners of Long-Term Care Centers, confirmed this Thursday in a radio interview that several outbreaks of Covid-19 have been reported in the centers.
“Yes, there are many outbreaks and unfortunately many lives are being lost. There are households that die 15, 16 people, and this is very sad. In a single institution. It is happening, and a lot is happening. It is unfortunate and it is an emergency, “said Aponte Morales in a radio interview with Normando en la Mañana on Notiuno 630.
“We are calling for the vaccination process to be accelerated,” said Aponte Morales, who did not identify the center for the elderly where there have been the highest number of deaths, but said that no vaccines have reached that place.
“The Department of Health is taking samples and taking the corresponding medications to treat those who are infected and have symptoms, and with acute respiratory problems. The Department of Health is there intervening and giving support ”, affirmed Aponte Morales.
As for vaccinations, he said that “vaccines are being given to us (at Long-Term Care Centers), Walgreens and CVS pharmacies, large chain pharmacies. These pharmacies have started, but seem to have had problems with the lists they have received. Perhaps there has not been so much interagency communication with the Department of the Family, which is what regulates us, ”said Aponte Morales.
