SAN JUAN – The Caguas Criollos defeated the RA12 team 4-2 on Thursday, at the Hiram Bithorn stadium in San Juan.
With this victory, Caguas ensures the pass to the final series of winter baseball.
La Yegüita swept the semifinal 4-0 and now awaits the outcome of the series between Indios de Mayagüez (1-0) and Atenienses de Manatí (0-1) to meet the rival of the coronation dance.
Miguel Amaya’s double with the congested bases drove in the three runs that gave the Criollos a definitive advantage in the third inning.
Team RA12 pressed the score 3-2, stepping on the plate in the fourth and fifth innings. In this way, the Cagüeños saw their chain of entries stopped at 23 without allowing annotations. In the sixth act, the roll in the Gianpaul González box brought the fourth Caguas hairline on Amaya’s legs.
The victory was taken in relief by veteran Iván Maldonado, who in 1.2 innings gave up just one hit, without scoring. Right-hander Luis Alvarado took the backhand for RA12. In 2.1 innings he led to two runs with one hit and five walks.
Left-hander Giovanni Soto threw the first three innings for the Criollos, with no decision or touchdowns allowed. In addition to Iván Maldonado, Raúl Rivera, Anthony Maldonado, Zach Muckenhirn, Rayan González and Joshua Torres pitched in relief for the Creole team, who was awarded the save.
The Criollos did not qualify for the final series since the 2017-18 season, when they were crowned champions of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Series.
