San Juan – The secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO), Edan Rivera Rodríguez said on Friday that the agency’s inspectors are ready to supervise the exemption period from the payment of Sales and Use Tax (SUT) for permitted school purposes.
The period began at 12:00 midnight today, Friday, January 8, 2021 and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
The DACO staff will monitor the labeling of product prices, misleading advertisements, product availability and compliance with the layaway or rain check, among other aspects.
“We urge consumers to find out about the items allowed under the provisions of Regulation No. 7711 of the Department of the Treasury. It is very important to keep the purchase receipt and be careful that it reflects the adjustment without SUT when buying any of the exempt products. Our inspectors will be visiting the businesses and we will have a staff in the Office offering guidance through the consultation line 787-722-7555, ”the secretary informed in written statements.
As explained by the official, consumers who identify irregularities in businesses can send the information through confidences on the website www.daco.pr.gov (http://www.daco.pr.gov/) or Suri Confidence in suri.hacienda.pr.gov.
Exempt school supplies include folders, eraser, calculator, chalk, tape, crayon, markers, pen, sharpener, pencils, scissors, and rulers.
Also included are compass, folders, glue, paper and pencil boxes and other boxes of school supplies, among others.
