Meteorologist Deborah Martorell reported that the magnitude of the fire that occurs at this time in the forested area of Vega Baja left a column of smoke that was recorded by the Doppler radar in the weather reading.

The fire strikes an area of grass between the Sandín neighborhood and the Tortugero Lagoon, while three units including forest firefighters attend to the area of difficult access.

Martorell added that the air quality in northern towns such as Manatí and Barceloneta could be affected by that wave of smoke that would even be leaving traces of ash in these towns.
