Department of Labor advises self-employed workers about the deadline to obtain a Merchant’s Registration

The Department of Labor and Human Resources reported today that any self-employed claimant who receives Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), and does not have their merchant registration, will have until next October 1 to obtain an active Merchant Registry by the Department of the Treasury, including those who are already receiving compensation.

It was indicated that after that date, Merchant Records will not be validated or accepted for periods claimed prior to the period claimed.

The agency reminded the public that the new platform for PUA has a validation mechanism with the files of the Department of the Treasury to corroborate the information provided by the claimant and determine if, in effect, the claimant meets the parameters to be considered a self-employed, according to the Internal Revenue Code.
