Discover Puerto Rico receives new designation | government

Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s official destination marketing organization (DMO), received the seal of the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP).

Accreditation is in recognition of the organization’s commitment to industry excellence and meeting the industry standard for performance and accountability for target organizations around the world.

Discover Puerto Rico received the “Accreditation with Distinction”, the highest possible recognition for a destination organization.

“With Distinction” indicates that the organization exceeded the minimum requirements for accreditation and that the independent DMAP Board found no opportunities for the organization to improve its responses to the required standards.

“We are pleased that Discover Puerto Rico is joining our distinguished group of professionals. The industry distinction defines the quality and performance standards for destination organizations and I am proud to welcome it to the DMAP community, ”said Don Welsh, President and CEO of Destinations International.

Meanwhile, Maura Allen Gast, executive director of Visit Irving, commented that “by achieving DMAP accreditation, Discover Puerto Rico demonstrated that it developed strategies for the direction of its destination, and the policies and procedures to safeguard the use of public dollars.”

The accreditation program requires a target organization to successfully meet multiple mandatory and voluntary standards spanning a variety of performance areas to achieve this momentous achievement.

The standards cover almost all aspects of destination organization management and marketing, including governance, finance, human resources, sales, communications, destination development, and research.

Discover Puerto Rico joins the list of more than 200 destination organizations that have obtained DMAP recognition.
