An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 was felt in the southwest of the Island, as reported by the Puerto Rico Seismic Network.
The earthquake occurred at 9:54 in the morning and had a depth of two kilometers.  There is no tsunami warning, warning or surveillance for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The maximum intensity, IV, was registered in Mayagüez.
"It is very likely that in the Lajas area we can have an intensity of V or take care of more. You have to see the registered or reported damages," said the director. from the Seismic Network, Víctor Huérfano, in an interview with WKAQ.
With this tremor, there are six reported by the Puerto Rico Seismic Network as senses today.
Residents of municipalities such as Arecibo, Añasco, San Juan, Guayanilla, Aguas Buenas, Vega Alta, Bayamón, Ponce, Barceloneta, Dorado and Orocovis reported having felt the earthquake.
An earthquake of magnitude greater than 4 has not been registered since June 28.
Comparing the of that day, with the sense today, Huérfano said that "in terms of size and energy released they are similar."
"This one moves a little west a few kilometers. That is why the appreciation of the event is greater in Lajas" he added.
The seismic sequence began on December 28, with the strongest reported on January 6 — magnitude 5.8 — and January 7 — magnitude 6.4.
