The EcoExploratorio was one of the institutions chosen by the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) to be part of the beneficiaries of the first cycle of Gender Equity Grants.
Through the support of IF / THEN®, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies, over $ 200,000 has been awarded to 26 ASTC member science and technology centers and museums in the United States seeking to address equity in representation of gender in the content of his museum.
The IF / THEN® Gender Equity Grant program offers science centers the opportunity to launch projects aimed at increasing the representation of women and gender minorities in STEM, as part of their broader efforts to advance the diversity, accessibility, inclusion and equity. In the coming months, first round recipients will advance a variety of projects, including the following: reviewing displays and signage, developing girls' STEM learning camps, organizing virtual events and resources, engaging the public through virtual chats with women scientists, and even creating collectible cards featuring women in STEM careers!
Recipients were selected in a competitive process open to all state-based ASTC member science centers and museums United.
A recent Microsoft STEM Perceptions study found that 68% of girls who chose A high-tech career say they were inspired by a person, event, or class during their high school or high school years. Combined, ASTC members in the United States welcome more than 75 million visitors on average each year, providing them with a powerful opportunity to inspire visitors with images of professional women in STEM careers.
The IF / THEN® Gender Equity Grant is one element of ASTC's commitment to advance gender representation through the IF / THEN® Initiative. In February, ASTC launched the IF / THEN® gender representation toolkit, which is being used by science museums around the world to collect data on their visual representation of gender in different types of museum content. Through a partnership with the National Collaborative Project for Girls, recipients will have access to the IF / THEN® Collection, a free digital photo and video library of inspiring STEM women.
Launched by Lyda Hill Philanthropies, the Initiative IF / THEN® is based on the mantra that says, "If we support a woman in STEM, then she can change the world." The initiative includes a large coalition.
