Efran Paredes-Maisonet appointed as interim executive director of PREPA | government


The President of the Governing Board of the Electric Power Authority (PREPA), Ralph A. Kreil Rivera announced that, after the Extraordinary Executive Meeting of the Board, the appointment of Efran Paredes-Maisonet as interim executive director was made of said corporation, effective tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, 2020.

Currently the engineer Paredes, who has worked at PREPA since 2000, occupies the position of director of Planning and Environmental Protection, and has been a leader in several initiatives of PREPA in coordination with federal and state agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Energy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau, the Authority for Public Alliances- Private and the Fiscal Oversight Board, among others.

The new interim executive director has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, campus of Mayagüez.

“The engineer Paredes-Maisonet has been a highly competent server. His two decades of experience in PREPA allow him to have the background of the Corporation and to know closely the transformation that has already been underway. We appreciate that you have accepted this designation and your availability to work closely with the Governing Board to achieve the efficiency goals that we have set for ourselves. Our Board will continue the process of evaluating candidates for the subsequent appointment of a proprietary executive director, "said Kreil.

From April 2009 to December 2012, engineer Paredes-Maisonet served as Energy and Environment Advisor at the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico.

His appointment comes after the resignation of José Ortiz Vázquez as executive director of the public corporation, which is effective at midnight today.
