SAN JUAN – On Monday, the electoral commissioner of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Gerardo “Toñito” Cruz, asked the president of the State Elections Commission (CEE), Francisco Rosado Colomer to reconsider the use for an audit of the elections by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
“If the audit has to intervene with the ballots that are part of the scrutiny, the suspension of the audit would be requested. They were? By provision of law, a general election audit is carried out by the State Elections Commission. What is an audit? The audit is what they are doing down there. Officials representing political parties and candidates sitting at a table to examine what happened the night of the event. And what do you examine? Everything, ”Cruz said at a press conference.
“Today, I have sent a letter to the president of the State Elections Commission where I am asking him to reconsider the request he is making to the Office of the Inspector General to desist from that idea and put in the hands of the people that the law provides, and I invite you to read article 3.15 of the Electoral Code, which assigns precisely that job to the Commission. It is not to any other agency, “he added.” Everything they have known about briefcases that appeared and disappeared, ballots, minutes, all those stories are now over because what JAVA was managing was corrected. Its total handling, the process, the vote by mail and the receipt of them was a disaster, “he said.
