Elizam Escobar’s wake will be in Old San Juan

The artist and former political prisoner Elizam Escobar will be veiled this Thursday at Casa Contrafuertes, San Sebastián street in Old San Juan, between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm

Escobar passed away on January 15, aged 71, after battling cancer for several years.

As indicated through a press release, “in compliance with a permit granted for the celebration of the wake, it is necessary to follow all the protocols for compliance with the strict measures for the prevention of COVID-19.”

Among the recognitions Escobar received are an honorary master’s degree from the School of Plastic Arts, the dedication of La Campechada in 2016, the award from the International Association of Art Critics in 2013 for the best retrospective exhibition, and the award from the Pen Club in 1999 for Best Essay Anthology – a book written and published while in prison.
