The union organizations representing the employees of the Department of the Treasury requested an urgent meeting with the secretary Francisco Parés, to evaluate the health measures that will be adopted in the agency in the face of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).  Desireé López Ramírez and Jessica Otero Santana, international representative and president of the Union of Finance Workers, Local 2373, UAW, respectively, as well as Gerson Guzmán, pointed out that the agency has not fully complied with the protocols established to protect the workers.
“Positive cases of Covid-19 have already been detected in the Intendente Ramírez building. The department's action has been limited to cleaning the area where the affected worker carries out his duties, "the union leaders denounced.
Given this, they demanded the total disinfection of the building and the ventilation system, the imposition of quarantine and the follow-up on employee contact tracking measures.
“We urgently ask the secretary to set a date for the requested meeting where we can directly discuss with him the important matter of the necessary changes to the department's health and safety protocols. and the need to agree on the salary improvements that our union members have historically demanded, as well as the payment of the incentives owed to the first responders, "they added.
The union leaders asked Parés to also comply with the decision made by the agency to assign the Internal Revenue Agents and Special Fiscal Agents to substitute the work that corresponds to the comp Private group of security guards who normally provide this service in the agency's dependencies.
Union leaders also denounced the additional burden of responsibilities that are intended to be imposed on this group of workers, who according to what they indicated occupies the last rank in that refers to the internal reclassification and remuneration program.
