Ponce – For the second year in a row, the San Lucas Episcopal Medical Center (CMESL) joins efforts under the ‘San Lucas de Rosa’ campaign to commemorate breast cancer awareness month and promote the importance of getting a mammogram on time.
“Breast cancer, if not detected and treated, can be fatal. Studies show that if it is discovered at an early stage, the patient can have a positive prognosis for life, which is why mammography is important, ”said Dr. Pedro Díaz, Director.
The San Lucas Integrated Imaging Center will promote throughout the month of October the initiative ‘Get a mammogram and take a commemorative mug’, where a commemorative mug will be given to all patients who come to have a mammogram, sonomamography, an MRI sinus or bone densitometry.
Similarly, they will receive a waterproof poster to place in the shower with the steps to follow to perform a breast self-exam.
They will also be given a reusable package and a 2021 calendar.
“Although we are going through a pandemic, it is important that each patient does not miss their appointment, study or medical procedure. In our institution we offer you all the attention under the highest security standards. Our commitment is with your health always ”, expressed the Lcdo. Elyonel Pontón Cruz, Executive Director
It should be noted that breast cancer is the most common in women in Puerto Rico. The data indicates that one in 12 women will suffer from it.
This cancer causes about 400 deaths per year.
