GUAYNABO – FEMA approved over a million dollars in grants and disaster loans from the Federal Small Business Development Agency (SBA) to help residents affected by Storm Isaias that caused landslides and floods in western Puerto Rico in late July.
The agency released disaster recovery efforts through Oct. 18 in a written statement Tuesday.
867 people have contacted FEMA for help or information on disaster assistance.
182 families have been approved for FEMA landlord and renter grants.
More than $ 324,000 approved for housing grants, including short-term rental assistance and home repair costs.
About $ 393,000 approved for other essential disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses and loss of personal belongings.
83 landlords and tenants are receiving rental assistance.
445 virtual home inspections have been carried out.
869 visits have been made to disaster recovery centers in the four designated municipalities: Aguada, Hormigueros, Mayagüez, and Rincón.
The SBA has approved over $ 362,000 in low-interest disaster loans for businesses and homeowners.
Regardless of the degree of loss or insurance coverage, survivors in the four aforementioned municipalities are urged to request assistance if the damage occurred from July 29 to July 31. The deadline to apply is Monday, November 9.
