San Juan – An urban and small stream flood warning for towns in western Puerto Rico was issued on Wednesday by the National Weather Service (SNM) in San Juan.
Hormigueros, Maricao, San Germán and Mayagüez are under flood warning until at least 4:00 in the afternoon, according to the SNM.
At 12:58 in the afternoon, the Doppler radar found heavy rain due to thunderstorms that will cause flooding. Before long, an inch of rain was recorded and an additional one to two inches is anticipated to fall.
A flood warning means that rivers and small streams have high water flow or that accumulation of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
They urge not to cross flooded areas
Meteorology urged not to cross flooded roads, since the accumulation of water is generally greater than what is seen with the naked eye.
Drivers should look for alternate routes. A single foot of water can wash away a vehicle.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles.
