The famous chocolate store, Godiva announced that it will close its 128 stores in North America and Puerto Rico.
On the island, the company only has one store located in the Plaza Las Américas shopping center.
According to several specialized economics media, the closure of establishments is due to the rapid change in sales online and through other retail partners. In addition, they suffered damage after the hit of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have always focused on what our consumers need and how they want to experience our brand, which is why we have made this decision,” Godiva CEO Nurtac Ziyal Afridi said in a statement.
At the moment, details were not revealed on how many employees will be affected by the closing of the stores.
Stores in Europe, the Middle East and China were reported to remain open.
