Says all adults will be able to get vaccinated starting Monday

SAN JUAN – During his State of Puerto Rico Address, Gov. Pierluisi said that although the island has been “extremely diligent” in the vaccination process, the island is experiencing “a dangerous spike in COVID cases,” leading to his decision to tighten restrictions to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Pierluisi also announced that, starting Monday, April 12, anyone age 16 or older may sign up to schedule their vaccination against Covid-19.

“I have been very cautious when it comes to allowing reopenings, and I have always been willing to make the necessary adjustments to avoid an increase in infections.

“And that is what I have to do now for the good of our people. I announce that I will be advancing the validity of the new Executive Order that would have begun next Monday to this Friday, April 9. In it, the curfew hours will be from 10 at night to 5 in the morning, and commercial establishments will close at 9 at night, ”the governor said.

He prohibited any activity or event that involves crowds, the requirement of a PCR, or diagnostic, Covid-19 test for every visitor to Puerto Rico, and resources for the Department of Health to enforce compliance with traveler quarantines.

The new order will be officially announced Thursday and will take effect Friday.

“Now, I am once again seeking the help of our people to protect themselves, to take care of their families and friends, and in this way we take care of ourselves and we all protect ourselves, because together we are going to defeat this pandemic , ”Pierluisi said.

Some 2,000 people have died on the island after contracting the virus.
