The capitol – The governor, Pedro Rafael Pierluisi Urrutia, went to the Senate Chamber on Monday where he offered a message in search of unity before a legislature dominated by the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and the inclusion of the representatives of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), the Dignity Project and the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC).
“Our people expect a lot from us and want to see Puerto Rico progress. We are all aware that we face great challenges. It has been a tough few years. And for every hardship our people have endured, we are presented with impressive stories of achievement, displays of resilience, and beautiful acts of solidarity. Our people show us the way and give us the example of how they want us to perform in government. Faced with division, they teach us union of purpose. In the face of adversity, they adapt and find opportunities. Faced with challenges, they show us their ability to overcome them. This is how we Puerto Ricans are and Puerto Ricans. Therefore, taking that example as a map, we have to leave behind the election process that has already ended and focus on the great responsibility that the people have placed on our shoulders. It is no longer our goals that matter, but the goals of the people, ”said the governor during his address to the Senate.
“It is no longer our parties that direct us, but the mandate of our people. We should no longer look at what divides us, but rather focus on what unites us, which is a lot. It is those common causes that we have to prioritize and work on tirelessly. Seeking to be constructive in criticism and recognize that there are different ways of doing things, “he added.
“Together we are going to fight COVID-19, protecting our people, taking tests and treatments throughout the Island, achieving the distribution and administration of vaccines in every corner of Puerto Rico and achieving the herd immunity that we need to resume our lives. , the education of our boys and girls, our jobs and the economic activity that is sorely lacking ”, he stated.
“We also have to be united to ensure that our schools are in optimal condition and ready to receive our students in person, as long as it is safe for them and for our teacher class,” he said.
On the other hand, Pierluisi Urrutia mentioned that he will request all federal funds that may correspond to Puerto Rico.
“We are going to ensure that we demand the federal funds that correspond to us. And we allocate the necessary resources so that our people have excellent health services, to improve our health infrastructure throughout Puerto Rico and to promote a healthy life with special emphasis on mental health. Furthermore, we have to work together against poverty, especially against child poverty, which affects so much the ability of our youth to achieve their goals, ”said the governor.
“We have to come together to achieve the economic development that we all aspire to. To build a sustainable economy, ”he said.
“There will be initiatives in which we will have differences, that is normal. I promise to maintain the greatest openness to the initiative or project to seek consensus and common benefit. And when there isn’t, defer respectfully always putting Puerto Rico above all else, ”he stated.
On the issue of status, Pierluisi Urrutia said that he has to enforce the result of the plebiscite of November 3, 2020.
“You here will be a team and you will play as a team for Puerto Rico. I also need a team, “he said.
