Governor extends sales period without IVU for school uniforms and supplies


Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced reported that the first period of sale of school uniforms and supplies for the fiscal year 2020-2021, free of the payment of the Sales and Use Tax (IVU) that began last Wednesday, will last until Tuesday, August 4, 2020, due to the passage of tropical storm Isaías.

"Taking into consideration the emergency situation caused by tropical storm Isaías and consistent with the public policy of isolation and social distancing contemplated in the Executive Order In effect, we have extended the school sales period without IVU until 11:59 pm next Tuesday, August 4. In this way, consumers will have more time to program their purchases following security measures, "said the governor.

For his part, the secretary of the Department of Finance, Francisco Parés Alicea, stressed that" the previously established period of sale without IVU expired tomorrow Saturday, August 1, so that merchants will be able to carry out the necessary programming for the extension until next Tuesday, as we established in Administrative Determination 20-20. Likewise, we urge you to review the list of articles exempt from payment in Circular Letter 20-31, available on the website www.hacienda.pr.gov section Publications. ”

Among the Exempt school supplies include folders, school bags, eraser, calculator, chalk, tape, crayon, markers, pen, pencil sharpener, pencils, scissors, and rulers. Also included are lunch boxes, compass, clipboards, glue, paper and pencil boxes and other boxes of school supplies, among others.

“You must remember that all printed books, electronic books and note books purchased in retail , of any size, are exempt from IVU payment throughout the year. The exemption is for both purchase and rent, "said the secretary.

On the other hand, Parés Alicea announced that the date of filing and payment of all those forms, declarations and forms that are due July 31, 2020 was extended until Friday, August 7, 2020.
