The Department of Health (DS) today ordered the closure of operations of the Metropol restaurant in Barceloneta. This as a precautionary measure, after learning about positive cases of Covid-19 among employees and not taking precautionary measures to avoid the spread.
“The administration of this establishment was negligent, requesting that the employees who gave positive results to tests PCR did not disclose said information, which put the health of both other employees and diners at risk. We are not going to think twice about taking action against people or merchants who do not have respect for health and put the lives of others at risk, "said Health Secretary Lorenzo González Feliciano.
The investigation carried out by the Department of Salud, revealed that the administrator of the establishment was aware that two employees tested positive for molecular tests. Similarly, and knowing that he had two positive cases, he did not carry out the necessary disinfection to prevent the virus from spreading. Once the employees became aware of the situation, and after several days of reporting the positive cases, serological tests were arranged for them, determining that they should start working, after giving negative results.
As part of said investigation , it is indicated that the health and safety protocols were not followed, which put the lives of others at risk. At the moment, the recommendations of the Department of Health, the CDC or PROSHA, on keeping all employees in isolation and quarantine have not been complied with, since two of them were positive. Given these findings, the Health Department issued a cease operations order for five days, while the investigation is completed. Failure to comply with the cessation of operations may order the imposition of economic sanctions and / or the permanent closure of the business, as well as the suspension or revocation of the sanitary license.
The protocols establish that once there is only one result positive in an establishment, it is necessary that it remain closed for at least 24 hours, before starting the disinfection processes. In addition, after issuing the closing order, the administrator or owner of the establishment is required to provide Health personnel with the name and information of all employees who work at the site, as well as suppliers who have visited the same. Similarly, the name of the contracted company is required to carry out the disinfection process and a copy of the reopening protocol to avoid Covid-19 infections.
“We are not looking at compliance with the laws from a distance; We are vigilant and taking accurate and immediate actions to enforce them, for the safety of the population. This is not a light matter; We are talking about the health of the people of Puerto Rico and, with that, there is no risk, "said González Feliciano, who emphasized that these interventions are carried out in conjunction with the agents of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau and citizen collaboration.
