Heat index reaches 107 degrees

Do you feel very hot?

Well, know that the temperature for the San Juan metropolitan area has remained at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, but the heat index reached 107 degrees and has remained that way for several hours, causing a tremendous hot flash this afternoon.

According to data from the National Weather Service in San Juan, at 11:00 am The temperature of 90 degrees had already been reached for the San Juan area. However, the heat index reached 107 degrees at 1:00 p.m. and it remains that way after 4:00 p.m.

For the municipality of Ceiba, the index of 107 degrees was registered twice. One was at 11:00 a.m., but then decreased to 102 and 104 degrees. At 4:00 p.m., it returned to 107 degrees. In this town, however, the thermometer reached 91 degrees Fahrenheit.

Information obtained from the SNM graphs also establish that a temperature of 91 degrees is recorded for Mayagüez. The heat index for this area is not available.

The heat index is calculated taking into account the available temperature and humidity. Its result represents how a human feels the heat of the day.

The SNM had already predicted this heat of the day. Southeast winds, accompanied by dust from the Sahara, is what causes this hot weather, mainly for the north coast.

Dust from the Sahara is expected to dissipate by early Monday.
