San Juan – Given the vacancy that will arise in the Supreme Court before the end of the year, the candidate for representative by accumulation for the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Héctor Ferrer Santiago, asked Governor Wanda Vázquez to allow the next elected governor make the appointment of the new judge.
“The governor has a pattern of making appointments of people who are close to her and who are totally unable to do the job. In December there will be a vacancy in the Supreme Court and it must be a legitimate governor who makes this appointment, ”Ferrer Santiago said in a written communication.
He recalled that “Wanda Vázquez was not elected by the people and received a clear rejection in the primary for the governor by the PNP. We are less than a month away from the elections, and this appointment must be made by the candidate who is elected on November 3 ”.
Finally, Ferrer Santiago stressed the importance of safeguarding judicial independence and maintaining a constitutional balance.
“The Supreme Court interprets the laws that protect the rights of Puerto Ricans. To ensure and protect the credibility of our highest judicial forum, the appointment of the new judge must be made with legitimacy, “he said.
