The Governor of Puerto Rico Pedro R. Pierluisi participated today in the inauguration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington DC
The first executive expressed hope with the treatment of Puerto Rico by this new administration.
Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, the governor was at the headquarters of the National Governors Association where he was able to share with his counterparts from the states of Nebraska, Arizona, Louisiana, among others.
“It is important for me to have been present representing Puerto Rico at such an important and historic moment as the swearing in of President Biden and Vice President Harris, which represents the end of the times of polarization. My presence should remind the entire leadership of the United States government that we deserve dignified treatment as American citizens, ”said the governor in written statements.
The president added that he is confident that the new Biden-Harris administration will give Puerto Rico fair and equitable treatment.
“The moment of equality has arrived. Puerto Rico spoke out on November 3 and decided that it wants the same rights enjoyed by our brothers who reside in the states. We are American citizens, proud of our customs, culture, and language, but we are eager to participate in equal conditions in the democratic processes of the United States. I will continue, together with the Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González, giving the fight so that our claims are heard and addressed, ”said Pierluisi from the Federal Capital.
During yesterday the governor concentrated his meetings in the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) office together with the new director Carmen Feliciano and the resident commissioner Jenniffer González, to outline coordinated strategies regarding the representation of matters Priorities for Puerto Rico, such as the disbursement of funds for reconstruction, additional federal funds for health and education, among others.
Likewise, the governor and the resident commissioner met with Congressman Darren Soto and discussed the efforts they will carry out together to achieve equality for American citizens residing on the island.
Finally, Pierluisi took advantage of his visit to the Federal Capital to attend various national media.
