SAN JUAN – The executive director of the Metropolitan Region of the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), Roberto W. Martínez Toledo, reported that on Monday night and early Tuesday there are several sectors that use the Sergio Cuevas filter plant , in Trujillo Alto, which experience from low pressures to interruption of drinking water service due to high turbidity.
“During the afternoon (Monday), plant personnel have kept washing the filters to mitigate the impact on the turbidity registered. However, it was necessary to lower the production of the plant to speed up the filter cleaning work, ”explained Martínez Toledo in a written communication.
In the same way, the official added that, while the situation is corrected, the clients that are supplied by the pumping systems of Venezuela and Saint Just, located in Río Piedras; Sectors of Cupey, Carolina and Trujillo Alto will face from low pressures to intermittent drinking water service, while the works are completed.
On the other hand, subscribers residing in the upper parts of Santurce and various sectors in Hato Rey could also be affected.
“Our staff keeps monitoring turbidity in the plant to increase the production of potable water. However, the intermittence or interruption of the drinking water service could extend during the night of Monday and the early morning of Tuesday morning in the sectors that use Sergio Cuevas, ”added Martínez Toledo.
Due to the possibility of turbidity during the process of restoring the service, it is recommended that citizens boil the water for three minutes before consumption.
