San Juan – The president of the House of Representatives, Carlos ‘Johnny’ Méndez Núñez, together with the candidate for mayor of Luquillo for the New Progressive Party (PNP), Luis Rodríguez Díaz, carried out on Thursday a series of visits in multiple communities of the municipality which is known as the ‘Capital of the Sun’ with the purpose of developing a government program that meets its needs, particularly the sustainable economic development of the area.
“Luquillo has great potential for economic development and we have worked hard over the past three years to create the conditions that enable an upturn for the benefit of all its residents. The message that we are taking to the communities of Luquillo is a simple, clear and forceful one: an economy that responds to you, our continuous and unwavering commitment to not a single tax more and that costs in water and electricity. We go together for the full development of Luquillo ”, declared Méndez Núñez in written communication.
Among the community investments made by the President to improve Luquillo’s quality of life are the direct allocation of $ 1.5 million to rehabilitate the Kioskos area in order to make its emergence viable, since the potential of this unique strip of Puerto Rican small businesses it could generate over $ 60 million annually in revenue.
Together with fellow representative Néstor Alonso, president of the Chamber’s Tourism Commission, a measure was enacted that declares the Kioskos de Luquillo area as a Gastronomic Center of the Eastern Region of Puerto Rico, thus facilitating its inclusion in marketing programs to national and international level.
In April 2019, we announced the investment of $ 195,000 for the construction of a new pedestrian bridge between the Los Kioskos area and the La Monserrate spa.
With this bridge, the conservation of the resources of the La Monserrate spa, one of the most visited in Puerto Rico, is possible, as well as an additional attraction to the visitor.
The President of the Chamber made his statements during a series of visits, with all the health and safety measures applied, with residents of the Vistas de Luquillo II urbanization this past Wednesday afternoon.
“I thank the President of the Chamber for his great interest in Luquillo and helping to realize its enormous potential, both economic and social. Our people need a change of course to achieve the highest wishes of its people and we are going to give it to them. We are going to promote a true municipal economic reform that encourages the creation of micro-businesses and new jobs, that is one of our commitments to the people of the Capital of the Sun ”, said Rodríguez Díaz.
In addition to the visits, Méndez Núñez, who is also the representative of District 36 of Luquillo, Fajardo, Río Grande Ceiba, Vieques and Culebra, traveled various streets of the aforementioned community in the company of, among other PNP leaders, the candidate for the Senate for the District of Carolina, Marissa Jiménez Santori.
