San Juan – The Judicial Branch announced this Monday that it launched a new cyber portal that provides information, education and services in a simple language, close and relevant to the needs of the community.
“The new website www.poderjudicial.pr It is more accessible and its design provides direct access to the variety of services and tools that the Puerto Rico Judiciary has developed for the benefit of the legal community and the community in general, ”said the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez, who assured that this new design of the internet portal is an additional measure of transparency, accountability and access to justice.
“The Judicial Power of Puerto Rico provides a public service and we must be available and close to the community through all means. A service as relevant as the administration of justice must be transmitted easily and delivering responses at the speed and scope of the web. With the new design of our internet portal, we seek to provide information in an agile, simple and close way about what happens in the courts of the country and facilitate access to the services we offer. This, by transforming the portal into a tool to enhance transparency, accountability and, above all, to promote the involvement and education of citizens about the role of their Judicial Power, “said the Presiding Judge.
More than 10 years ago, in 2009, the previous design of the internet portal was launched. Since then, the Puerto Rico Judiciary has evolved to be a much more technology-oriented organization and required a new, more modern tool in line with new trends.
Now the website has a new structure that integrates the use of modern icons and colors for a more agile navigation.
In addition, the different sections have drop-down menus that facilitate access to information. Other elements include a central button visible on all pages that allows direct return to the front page from anywhere in the portal and a mobile navigation bar that facilitates movement within the pages of each section.
The work of revision and design of the Internet portal was carried out with resources and internal talent of the Judicial Power.
In addition, Oronoz Rodríguez highlighted that this new version of the portal is also compatible with mobile formats and is more accessible to people with functional diversity thanks to a collaboration agreement with the Puerto Rico Technological Assistance Program of the University of Puerto Rico.
Likewise, to facilitate navigation, the portal is segmented into various sections that contain information to meet the needs of different audiences. The new Community Education section will offer information on various legal issues and related judicial processes, such as the rights of the elderly, gender violence, the Mental Health Law, evictions, collection of money, parent-child relations , parental authority and custody, among many other topics of interest. In addition, educational material is shared for both adults and children and includes videos with sign language. For its part, the Community Services section includes forms, information on how to request certifications and how to obtain copies of documents, among other services.
Regarding the services available to lawyers, Oronoz Rodríguez stressed that they are all grouped in one place in the section called Electronic Court, so they are more accessible for the benefit of the legal community. These services are the Unified System for Case Management and Administration (SUMAC); the Electronic Notarial Registry (REN), the Single Registry of Lawyers (RUA) and Electronic Notification in the Courts (NET).
Other sections, which are the most used by visitors to the portal, are the Calendar query and the Case query. Regarding the Consultation of cases, the system was adjusted to facilitate the search so that the user can access the information of the cases presented before the implementation electronic presentation (physical / paper files) and those presented under SUMAC (electronic files ). The Supreme Court Decisions and Appeals Court Decisions sections were also redesigned to allow easier searching and access to judicial decisions of appellate courts.
“I invite citizens and the legal community to visit our new internet portal, which reflects our interest in facilitating access to justice for all people and promoting a more modern and efficient Judicial Power through technology,” he concluded Oronoz Rodríguez.
