Louisville, Kentucky. Don’t suck your fingers!
That’s what Kentucky Fried Chicken told diners Monday, when the company discontinued its traditional “It’s Finger Lickin ‘Good” advertising slogan after 64 years, calling it “the most inappropriate tagline for 2020 ”amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The suspension will affect the use of the slogan in global advertising “for a time,” the company said in a statement.
“We are in a unique situation, having an iconic slogan that does not correspond to the current environment”, said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, chief executive for global marketing.
Guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise people to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.
For now, KFC tells its fans not to worry.
“The slogan will return when the time is right”, the company said.
