San Juan – The president of the House of Representatives, Rafael “Tatito” Hernández Montañez together with the president of the Senate, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, on Wednesday requested the governor, Pedro Rafael Pierluisi Urrutia not to send for the moment, the appointment of the secretary of the Department of Public Safety (DSP) until that umbrella department is restructured.

“We ask you, although it is an issue that belongs to the Senate, we respectfully ask the governor to desist for the next few weeks the appointments of the DSP and the Police as we attend to public policy on this matter. Comrade Ramón Luis Cruz Burgos has already spoken that he will be attending to the reconfiguration of the DSP ”, said Hernández Montañez at a press conference.

“The governor asked not to eliminate him, but to find a way to reach a meeting point. Both (legislative) presidents sat down and discussed that we wanted to dialogue to achieve a way to make it more effective and to explain it in rice and beans, the security part on one side and the emergency part on the other ”, he added.

He argued that the governor asked him not to create a new DSP, but rather to restructure that umbrella department.

The president of the Chamber stated that “for me the financial issue was an important issue because this was sold as a savings from the point of view of the Treasury and what has been this is an expense that has deprived the resources of the Police and the safety components ”.

On the other hand, the President of the Senate, José Luis Dalmau Santiago explained that he proposed to Governor Pedro Pierluisi to send the appointments, both of the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Justice, since they are the successor positions in case of departure of the governor.

“I asked the governor to send the first appointments, mainly those that are constitutional and that are of high successor rank, such as the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Justice, among others. He has the power to send them all at once, but we asked him to send those with priority because it is of a successor order, “said Dalmau Santiago.
