CAMUY – The Arenosos de Camuy, Fundadores de Añasco and Poetas de Juana Díaz teams all emerged victorious on Wednesday, as part of the reassigned game day of the 2021 season of Baseball Superior Double A.
The three winners defended their respective homes successfully, highlighting the Arenosos’ first night game at their Juan ‘Cheo’ López stadium since 2017.
Camuy painted white with a 9-0 result to the Athenians of Manatí, who occupy the basement of the North section with 1-5.
The Arenosos play 6-2 in second place in the group. Right-hander Freddie Cabrera was dominant for 7.1 innings with eight hits allowed and eight strikeouts delivered.
He completed the route and the rescue Joel Colón was signed up.
Four of Camuy’s five runs were driven in by Joseph Rodriguez, who hit a home run and a single.
In the Northwest, the Añasco Founders scored their first win of the season by beating the Aguada Navigators 6-3, who have not won in four appearances. Luis Pacheco’s home run tied the game at two runs in the fourth inning and a bouquet of three runs gave the Founders a definitive lead in the fifth inning.
Pitchers José Solá, Billy Román and Daniel Arroyo were combined for Añasco to barely make way for a hit.
Meanwhile, in the South, the Poetas de Juana Díaz beat the Peces Voladores de Salinas 10-1, with right-hander Julio Morales on the mound. Nelson Jorge hit two homers and drove in five runs for the Poets.
Morales threw six innings with three hits allowed and one undeserved run. He struck out seven batters.
The Double A action continues tomorrow, Friday, when the champions Mulos de Juncos visit the Cocoteros de Loíza at 7:45 pm, at the Roberto Clemente Walker stadium in Carolina.
