SAN JUAN – LUMA Energy reported on Thursday an alleged Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack targeting the My LUMA customer portal and mobile app.

They explained in written communication that a DDoS attack is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources.

They reported that the DDoS attack was identified and has been emitting 2 million visits per second. As a result, many customers may have had difficulty accessing information related to their account.

The company mentioned that the attack has been reported to the relevant authorities and LUMA awaits the results of an ongoing investigation.

“LUMA regrets that its customers have had to experience the inconvenience that the attack may have caused and hopes to continue to provide them with an exceptional customer service experience,” the entity said in a press release without attributing the expressions.
