SAN JUAN – The mayor of Coamo, Juan Carlos García Padilla, requested this Wednesday the reopening of the hammocks in the towns, with the supervision of the mayors of the municipalities, to prevent contagion with Covid-19.
“The secretary (of Health, Lorenzo González) favorably recommended our proposal” to reopen the hammocks, said García Padilla in an interview on Pegaos en la Mañana on Radio Isla with Julio Rivera Saniel.
“The result of not doing it and not regulating it by municipality, is that they begin to open. This weekend many of them began to open clandestinely, because they can’t take it anymore, ”said García Padilla.
“And it is sad as the big chains and as the consortiums, with their defenders and with their people and their employees, they defend those businesses and they do it very well,” said the Mayor of Coamo.
“But small (businesses) are devoid of that same access, to the decisions that are made, when thousands of Puerto Rican (businesses) are closed right now,” lamented García Padilla.
