McCormack Baron Salazar appoints Vice President for Puerto Rico




The complex developer and administrator firm McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) announced the appointment of Antonio Garate as vice president and director of Development for Puerto Rico.

With 25 years of experience in commercial, residential, institutional and industrial design and construction management, Garate will lead MBS development efforts in Puerto Rico.

More recently, Garate was a partner and senior project architect for Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón, an architecture and design firm based in San Juan and Southeast Florida. He has worked closely with MBS in the design and administration of contracts for the communities of Renaissance Square in Hato Rey and Bayshore Villas in Puerta de Tierra in San Juan, both already completed with 314 multifamily units; and in the revitalization of the Barrio Turabo community in Caguas.

This Caguas project, with an investment of $ 133 million, returns to the construction process following the security measures as established to contain the pandemic, it was reported. Located on a vacant lot that was previously a public housing site, the new community includes housing options that are affordable for families and older adults with a wide range of incomes.

Once completed, the site with the most 20-acre south Caguas will feature 238 apartments for families in townhomes or townhomes, and walk-up apartments without elevators, as well as a 200-unit senior apartment building.

Garate holds a Master of Science in Building Performance and Diagnostics and a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a registered architect licensed in Puerto Rico and Florida. Garate is certified by the National Council of Architect Registration Boards (NCARB), and is LEED AP certified with a specialty in Building Design and Construction from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

McCormack Baron Salazar is one of the most prominent developers, managers, and asset managers in economically integrated urban neighborhoods at the US level, with a presence in 47 cities and more than 22,000 units built.
