The epidemiologist of the medical task force, Juan Carlos Reyes, warned that more restrictive measures should be taken in the next executive order to stop the alarming rise in cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) on the Island. “Seeing a report with more than 600 confirmed cases is very worrying,” said the epidemiologist in an interview with Radio Isla 1320 about the 633 confirmed cases that the Department of Health reported today, a record number since the emergency began.
Before the accelerated increase in infections, the epidemiologist announced that today they will meet with the economic ‘task force’ to discuss the content of the next executive order, which must enter into force on Saturday and that Governor Wanda Vázquez announced that she would present to the country tomorrow.
According to Reyes, the figure worries because fewer tests are being carried out due to the lack of reagents. However, more cases are being identified.
“This is the highest number we have had. We have been warning about this for a long time. At this time the probability of contagion is very high, “he said.
Among the measures that the advisory group will recommend to the governor, Reyes mentioned the closing of rooms in all restaurants, so that they can only operate in ‘delivery ‘and’ carry-out ‘.
In addition, they will recommend that cinemas, theaters and other closed spaces be kept closed. By the way, he announced that they will request the closure of the churches since they know of confirmed cases in these facilities.
“Currently we have evidence from other countries, from the United States and recently I have learned that data has emerged on churches (with cases positive for COVID-19) in Puerto Rico. ”
The Department of Health reported today 633 confirmed cases and 394 probable, raising these lines to 12,371 confirmed and 15,342 probable. 11 deaths were also added to the total that now stands at 346.
