More than 7,000 student food assistance applications were approved today

After the opening of the portal for applications for student food assistance, known as Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), the system had approved 7,096 applications by mid-afternoon on Monday, February 22, for a total of 15,798 eligible students and a disbursement of $ 14 million issued today, Monday, benefits that will be received by mail by families applying for the Family Card.

The secretary of the Department of the Family, Dr. Carmen Ana González Magaz recalled that the platform attends at this stage the second phase of applications addressed to students of the public education system, who are not beneficiaries of the Nutritional Assistance Program (PAN).

“It is the families of students from kindergarten to 4th year of the Department of Education who are not beneficiaries of the PAN, who must fill out the application on the portal in this phase to ensure that we have the most up-to-date and correct information on their residence and postal address. . In this way, we avoid loss of cards and guarantee a complete process in the access and disbursement of benefits, ”explained González Magaz.

Meanwhile, the administrator of the Administration of Socioeconomic Development of the Family (ADSEF), Alberto Fradera Vázquez confirmed that the platform has received twice the applications eligible for the second stage, which has caused intermittence in the application process.

“From before midnight we were together with a team of engineers monitoring the system at its opening and during the early hours of the morning, attending to the traffic of the approved requests that are sent this afternoon to the payment system and whose cards go out first thing. tomorrow by mail, ”assured the administrator.

Only families of students from schools of the public school system that are not PAN participants can access the link pr.gov/pebt/ to fill out the online application. Tutors or guardians of students must enter their information in the portal and enter the information of eligible students.

“We urge families to access the platform on the dates that correspond to them. We are confident that as applications continue to be approved on a daily basis, the system will be able to process them more quickly. Once the P-EBT Service Center begins to operate this week, we will also be able to assist families with particular situations of each request and process the requests of people who do not have Internet access, ”said Fradera Vázquez.

On the other hand, it was reported that the disbursements of the first phase to students belonging to a family participating in the PAN program continue tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23, for the digits that end from 3 to 5; Wednesday, February 24 for digits 6 and 7; and Thursday, February 25 for the digits 8 and 9.

Approximately 336 thousand students in Puerto Rico are eligible for the P-EBT, of which 286,787 are students from the public education system, 219 thousand are PAN beneficiaries, around 67 thousand students from the public system do not participate in the PAN program and 50 thousand students belong to eligible private or non-profit school entities.
