PONCE – The mayor of the Autonomous Municipality of Ponce (MAP), María E. Meléndez Altieri reported that the Municipal Housing Secretariat has federal funds available to assist Ponceños and Ponceños who have faced problems with the payment of housing rent and water utilities or light as a result of a loss of employment or income due to COVID-19. This initiative is part of the Municipality’s efforts to assist citizens in the midst of the pandemic.
The Municipality has $ 553,583.00 in funds that were allocated by the Federal Department of Housing, better known as HUD for its acronym in English, under the CARES Act and the Emergency Solutions Grant Program.
“We want to address the need of people who could be at risk of losing their homes or electricity and water services as a result of the pandemic that has affected us so much,” said Meléndez Altieri.
People who have arrears in the payment of rent or who have received an eviction notice from the court or landlord and in the same way, those who have arrears in the payment of water and electricity that correspond to the date as of March 16 can complete the request for assistance from the Secretary of Housing through [email protected]
“This incentive will cover arrears up to six (6) months subject to availability of funds. To receive this benefit, they must complete the application and also present documentation that evidences their current housing and income status. I urge those who need this help to request it. We in the Municipality continue working for everyone ”, said the Mayor.
