Ponce – As part of the efforts to support children, youth and adults who in the midst of the COVID-19 emergency have had to face the challenges presented by distance education, the Mayor of the Municipality of Ponce, María E. Meléndez Altieri announced that the municipal council will be locating Internet “hot spots” in rural areas and that, in addition, the Public Housing Administration informed him that it is in the process of installing Internet in all public housing units in Ponce.
Likewise, seven Cyber Centers are already open, with ample antennas, for residents who do not have access to the Internet or computers, which will be operating from Monday to Friday, through an appointment system to comply with prevention measures and with the Plan of Exposure Control of COVID-19.
“In the Municipal Administration we have always been committed to the education of our people, which is what defines our future. We have been doing all the steps, not only so that our public housing units have Internet, but also to place Internet antennas at strategic points so that our students in rural areas can connect ”, said the mayor.
He added, “in the face of this reality that we are living with COVID-19 we have adapted and with the proper security measures we have made our cybernetic centers and two libraries with access to WIFI and free Internet available to all Ponceños and Ponceñas Everyday Data company ”.
As an additional effort, so that students have more alternatives, Every Day Data will be replacing the antennas, with ones with greater reach, so that in this way the communities closest to the Cyber Centers and Digital Libraries can connect through WIFI in the evenings and on weekends.
Meléndez Altieri reported that the Cybernetic Centers located in the communities of Punta Diamante, Brisas del Caribe, Coto Laurel, Quebrada Limón, Quebrada del Agua and in the Mariana Suarez de Longo and Guillermo Jackson Libraries will be operating with more capacity internet.
The antennas with the longest range have also been installed in the Head Start Centers of El Paraíso, Las Bayas, Llanos del Sur and Magueyes.
Other services offered by the Cyber Centers are the printing of jobs and photocopies with a maximum of five sheets, processing documents online and access to computers.
Some of the Cyber Centers and libraries have rooms for individual studies.
“Visitors must wear a mask at all times and have personal disinfection materials with them. The physical distance of 6 feet will be respected and the temperature will be taken at the entrance of the facility. The work area or equipment used by each user will be disinfected ”, added the Municipal Executive.
For appointments you can call 848-2990 or (787) -812-3004 or write to the email address of each center to avoid crowds of people.
